Nelson's Medical Fund

I am writing this on behalf of my father Nelson C. Blandon. 
Nelson is a 56 year old loving father, grandpa, friend, etc. who is a hard working person and does his best to make everyone happy. 
28 years ago, Nelson was with family walking to a gas station when he saw a group of guys abusing a woman, my father decided to jump in and help her. However, he got badly injured and his right eye was severely damaged. Nelson ended up with blurry and poor vision. Since then, my father used only his left eye for everything.
On March 7th, we received a call from the Hospital that my father was getting prepared to go to surgery for a severe eye trauma injury. He was moving a large metal rod, slipped, and fell. The metal went into his left eye. He suffered multiple injuries. Sadly, my father lost complete vision of his left eye. 
A week later, my dad's doctor suggested an eye removal to prevent sympathetic opthalmia. In other words, my dad's body will attack his eyes. She recommended us to an Opthalmic plastic surgeon, whom tested his eyesight by lighting a flashlight on his left eye (he still has 1/2 of his retina inside, which detached after surgery). My dad was able to see light (AMAZING) but no image and because of that, she thought removing the eye was a rushed decision so we met with a retinal specialist and she suggested surgery to reattach the retina to get some vision back and put him a donors cornea. However, she did say that it wasn't a 100% guarantee outcome. He can still loose his eye but we loose nothing with trying. He will be having two surgeons in all upcoming surgeries and we need help. My dad's insurance ends April 1st and our surgeons were kind enough to make his first surgery before that deadline. However, my dad will be having more than 1 surgery and we wont know how many more after the first surgery. We also don't know the exact costs of everything so we are starting with 5,000 as our goal.
With my dad losing his left eye, he can no longer work and the only person working at home is my mother. My sisters and I are currently full-time students as well.

Estoy escribiendo esto en nombre de mi padre Nelson C. Blandon.
Nelson es un amoroso padre de 56 años, abuelo, amigo, etc. que es una persona trabajadora y hace todo lo posible para hacer felices a todos.
Hace 28 años, Nelson estaba con su familia caminando a una gasolinera cuando vio a un grupo de chicos abusando de una mujer, mi padre decidió entrar y ayudarla. Sin embargo, se lesionó gravemente y su ojo derecho quedó gravemente dañado. Nelson terminó con visión borrosa y pobre. Desde entonces, mi padre utilizó sólo su ojo izquierdo para todo.
El 7 de marzo, recibimos una llamada del Hospital que mi padre se estaba preparando para ir a la cirugía por una lesión ocular severa. Estaba moviendo una gran vara de metal, se deslizó y cayó. El metal entró en su ojo izquierdo. Sufría lesiones múltiples.  Tristemente, mi padre perdió la visión completa de su ojo izquierdo.
Una semana más tarde, la doctora recomendó la eliminación de los ojos para prevenir la oftalmia simpática. En otras palabras, el cuerpo de mi padre atacará sus ojos. Ella nos recomendó a un Opthalmic cirujano para una opinión. Cuando nos reunimos con ella, probó su vista encendiendo una linterna en su ojo izquierdo porque todavía tenía la mitad de su retina en el interior, que se había separado de nuevo después de la cirugía. Mi papá fue capaz de ver la luz, pero no la imagen y por eso, pensó quitar el ojo fue una decisión apresurada por lo que decidió llamar a un médico que se especializa en la retina. Ella sugirió cirugía para volver a unir la retina y tratar de recuperar la visión. También indicó que estará en la lista de donantes para una nueva córnea. Sin embargo, dijo que no era un resultado 100% garantía. Todavía puede perder su ojo pero no perdemos nada con intentarlo. Tendrá dos cirujanos en todas las próximas cirugías y necesitamos ayuda. El seguro de mi padre termina el 1 de abril y nuestro cirujano tuvo la amabilidad de hacer su primera cirugía antes de ese plazo. Sin embargo, mi padre va a tener más de una cirugía y no sabremos cuántos más después de la primera cirugía. También no sabemos los costos exactos de todo, así que estamos empezando con 5.000 como nuestro objetivo.
Con mi padre perdiendo su ojo izquierdo, ya no puede trabajar y la única persona que trabaja en casa es mi madre. Como familia, estamos pidiendo ayuda.
