Nadia's Grad School Dream!

Donation protected
Our precious Nadia was just accepted to grad school to obtain her Master's in School Counseling. She's now THAT much closer to pursuing her dream of becoming a high school counselor and continuing to deconstruct the pipeline and fight tracking. Her ultimate goal is to help more youth of color get into four-year institutions and fight for the youth who are often marginalized and ignored due to behavioral records and their GPA.

If you know Nadia, then you know she has made it her purpose to empower the next generation of youth as they maneuver through seemingly endless challenges in under resourced schools and communities.

As we all know, grad school costs much more than some pocket change. She's doing all that she can to meet the financial demands of school tuition of 70k a year but I also know help from her friends and family would make all the difference for her. Any and all donations will be more than appreciated. Every dollar truly counts. I want to see my best friend achieve her dreams, let's help and support her in making it happen!!

If you're in the LA area Nadia has began an organizing and design business to help fund raise for her tuition. She will turn any room, house, or apartment into an organized temple. Click here for that.

Here's a piece from her personal statement, isn't she so inspiring?

"Without support or resources, the likelihood that I would have continued on a destructive path was high, yet I made it. My resilience enabled me to break free from the situation I had fallen into and, with that, I began my educational career. Seeking higher education led me to find my purpose: helping youth overcome obstacles blocking their educational success. I knew my story would assist me in becoming a passionate mentor, yet I found that academia provided me with a social justice lens to better comprehend the conditions of my own community to better serve youth. Once I examined the root of socioeconomic conditions that dictate the life trajectory of many, I began understanding the history of oppression and its lingering effects in schools and communities. My college coursework enabled me to become conscious of the disparities inherent in the education system. The educational pipeline routinely allows students of color to fall through the cracks, making the idea of higher education seem improbable, if not impossible. This is why I felt compelled to return to my community where I have worked in secondary schooling to inspire youth for over 5 years. This work allowed me to come full circle -- devoting my life to empowering the next generation of youth as they maneuver through seemingly endless challenges.

In addition to the consciousness higher education granted me, it gave me the tools to begin to heal from my traumatic childhood. I began to take advantage of the various resources on my college campus: therapy and support groups."
