Operation Safety: Tim Czelusniak

I want to introduce you to my family, The Czelusniaks!

We are missionaries in the country of Honduras. We have been serving here for the last two and a half years, and have fallen in love with the people. We live in a small community called el Horno, about forty minutes south of the capital city. Most of my neighbors live in mud brick homes. They cook over a wood stove, wash laundry by hand, have outdoor plumbing, and do all of their farming with oxen. Some of their children walk over a mile to get to school each day!

When we first arrived in Honduras back in 2012, we purchased a 2001 Hyundai Galloper. In the States, we always owned older, used vehicles and had very little problems with them. We soon found out that the story was very different here. Our family car has spent more time in the shop than we have spent driving it.  We even had a mechanic inspect it before we purchased it!  We have replaced the head gasket more times than I can count, and were recently told that the motor is bad. Because of the effects of the terrible road conditions on vehicles here and the dishonestly of the people you are dealing with, buying an old, used vehicle here is a very bad idea! Trust us!

With all of that being said, that leaves our family of nine using a five passenger pick-up truck to get around. Anyone who has ever visited here would tell you that although it is legal for people to ride in the back of a pick-up, it is not safe. With our current car situation, we have no other options. When we need to renew our residency, which is a total family ordeal, we pile into the five passenger pick-upand head to the city, praying for the best!  And it doesn’t end there! Your car becomes a huge part of your ministry. In a country where most people do not own a car of there own, they are always in need of rides. We have driven countless numbers of people to the hospital, families to and from the church, and become a school bus to the children on the days that my daughter teaches classes there. And this is only a few of the things I can think of off of the top of my head. It is not abnormal for us to have more than thirty people piled into our pick-up!

By this point, you are probably asking, what does this have to do with me?And rightfully so!  We have come across a very rare opportunity to buy a used, fifteen passenger van off of other missionaries who are leaving the field.  They are selling a 2011 Nissan Urvan with 36,000 kilometers and a diesel engine. They purchased it brand new and have taken good care of it. It is normally impossibleto find a van like this used, in good shape, and from people you trust. They are asking $20,000 and we are asking for your help! With the loss of our old car, we are in a position where we need to start again, and we do not have the funds to do so. They are planning to sell it within the first two weeks inJuly, so we don’t have much time or we will miss the opportunity!

We appreciate all of your help! No gift it too small! Every penny will get us one step closer to transporting our family and friends in safety! Thank you for your consideration and your help!

(If you feel led to share this with your family and friends, feel free to do so! We appreciate all your help in helping us reach our goal!)
