DIRECTORS STATEMENT

Yo! I am Jason Bauguess, a filmmaker whose main career goal is to provide an opportunity for the underprivileged to follow their dreams and tell their own stories. For two-thirds of my life, I've been surrounded by cigarette smoke and alcohol. I grew up in poverty with a family perpetually trying to recover from being broken. It was common for power to go out, and to not have water, on top of a lot of other uncomfortable things. The worst of all, though, was having my own family constantly questioning my passions and pursuit of film. "DEAD AF" is personal to me. It's really a big "fuck you." A well-crafted one.

WHY DEAD AF

The goal with "DEAD AF" is to dive deep into the complexities of friendship, guilt, and moral choices in a challenging situation with a fresh and stylized perspective. Audiences will connect with the genuine friendship portrayed by Ryland, Zaida, and Micah. These characters are a representation of the diverse struggles, emotions, and coping mechanisms we all experience, and their journey allows us to explore themes of redemption, acceptance, and growth.

Our approach to storytelling combines elements of suspense and dark humor, making the viewers question their own moral compass while empathizing with each perspective of the characters. The script balances tension and humor, showcasing the nuances of human behavior in extraordinary circumstances.

Our crew is not just a group of filmmakers; we are a large and close group of friends who have shared experiences, laughter, and creative endeavors for the past two years (5 years for some). This unique bond between us, both as friends and as a filmmaking team, sets us apart from others in the industry. We believe that our shared history and trust in each other allow us to collaborate easily, bringing out the best in each team member and ensuring a fun and effortess creative process. Our strength lies in this deep connection, which translates into a shared vision for our projects and an unparalleled commitment to achieving our goals.

Our aim is to take the audience into the characters' world, allowing them to feel the weight of their thoughts, decisions, and the urgency of their actions. We plan on doing this visually taking advantage of a diverse array of artistic techniques, including mixed media animation, puppetry, CGI, 2D digital animation, stop motion, and digital filmmaking, as this mix is a significant part of the film's identity. This innovative approach will enhance our storytelling, adding layers of depth and visual richness to the narrative, creating a truly unique cinematic experience.
