LONDON TO PARIS CYCLE
in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity, Kidney Cancer UK, Dementia UK
On the 20th of October 2024, three novice cyclists - Stephanie Grayson, Daniel Cheeseman, and Brodie Duncan - will embark on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris for charity across three days.
Our Story -
After one long car journey to Belgium, someone (probably Steph) thought that we should push beyond the odd cycle to and from work and take up a challenge for a cause that is dear to us. By all means, we are not experienced cyclists….However, when our close friend and colleague, Jim Cope, agreed to come on the ride, we knew we would be in safe hands. It is with deepest regrets that he was diagnosed earlier this year with a brain tumour and sadly passed in August. We always said that Jim, who was an avid cyclist, would be 20 miles ahead and 5 pints down!! That is not to say he won’t be with us in spirit… and we will do him proud.
The trip will be entirely funded by ourselves and we will be completing this unaided without a support car carrying of our belongings. The money raised will be evenly distributed between the three charities. We chose to fundraise towards cancer and dementia-orientated organisations as all three of us have been touched by them in some way or another.
This cycle will not be easy, but this is nothing compared to the hardship that those suffering from cancer or dementia go through. Someone, at some point in their life, has been affected by these diseases, and coping with cancer and dementia can be difficult. These charities offer profound help and support; whether emotional, physical or around the practical effects and how to manage them. That is not to mention the life-saving research to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of these diseases. As well as identify the causes and improved methods of diagnosis and treatment.
Cancer and dementia are relentless, but so are we!
We would also like to thank LET'S RIDE SOUTHALL who have kindly loaned us three hybrid bicycles for our charity trip. Let’s Ride Southall is part of the Let’s Go Southall, Ealing Council and Sport England funded programme designed to help children and adults to become more active.
All donations to our GoFundMe page are greatly appreciated. Next stop, Paris!
