Adeline's Story

At our 28 week ultrasound the technician noticed some abnormalities in Adeline's brain and kidneys. We were then referred to a high-risk specialist to further diagnose what the technician was seeing. The doctor then confirmed there were enlarged ventricles, enlarged kidneys and a missing corpus callosum. We underwent several tests including amniocenteses, MRI and many blood tests. The results showed that Adeline had no major syndromes or infections. At this point the doctor’s main concern was keeping Hannah from developing preeclampsia. After many weeks of appointments (3-4 times per week), dozens of ultrasounds and several hospital visits, Hannah was admitted to the hospital for signs of severe preeclampsia. At 34 weeks along, Adeline was still in the breech position. After holding off a week, the doctors decided that Hannah’s preeclampsia was too severe for the baby to withstand any longer.

Adeline Kate Roberts was born 5 weeks early on June 15th, 2015 via emergency C-Section. Our baby girl weighed of 4lbs 6oz and was17inches long.  As soon as she was born she was immediately taken to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) to run tests. After a nights stay and several tests, the doctors concluded that there was no further care they could provide for our baby. Adeline was transported via helicopter to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, AL. We immediately began to plan our 4-hour drive but are currently awaiting Hannah’s release from the hospital. We have been in contact with the medical staff watching over Adeline and received information regarding her status. The doctor informed us that our baby has an issue on a cellular level. Her cells are not able to break down sugars or carbohydrates that are essential for efficient bodily function and growth, which indicates a high possibility of a severe disability. The doctor also notified us that her condition is extremely rare and will take weeks of tests to diagnose her condition.

We are fully ready to embark on this journey that God has planned for us and know that He will find a way to provide not only the strength to endure this long process, but the means in which to make it. We are very grateful for all of the support, love and prayers! We believe that God will heal our sweet baby girl and continue to stand in faith that everything will work out well for those who love Him.
