Hurricane Florence Recovery

When my hometown of New Bern, North Carolina  was hit by Hurricane Florence many families were impacted. One of those families was my own. When we returned home from evacuating to family in Atlanta we returned to an overwhelmingly devastating reality. There had been standing water in our house as high as chest deep in some places. Anyone who's been through a flood knows that anything the water touched has to go. Because of this, almost everything on the first floor was destroyed. Everything from appliances to wedding photos had to be hauled out covered in mold. The majority of our furniture, including multiple solid wood family heirlooms. had to be dragged out and thrown in the street. Despite having flood insurance, it wasn't until everything we owned was washed away did we find out we do NOT have content insurances. That means anything that isn't nailed into the structure is not covered. So we might get a little bit of insurance money to fix the siding that was pulled off and we might get money for new flooring.... But we won't get any money for a bed to keep us warm and comfortable this winter, we won't get a couch top curl up on to watch movies together as a family..... It's the simple creature comforts that are so taken advantage of that we may not have for many months to come. Any generosity you can share will help us get back on our feet and back in our home.
