Update #1: Jake will be receiving a procedure to pull air out of his chest cavity. His lungs are releasing air into the chest instead of keeping it in the lung “balloon”. This is a high risk procedure that can go either way, so we are hoping for the best end result possible. If removing the air does not work he will need a CT scan and surgery. He also has fluid around the stomach area from possible swelling or bleeding. This will be an intense hospitalization, so continue the good vibes for him!
Update #2: Jake is in critical condition as his breathing is declining. The vet is actively working to treat him as quickly as possible. CPR wishes have been granted if needed, which is a high possibility at this point. His estimate to start is $2500-3000, which will grow should he need further care.

Meet Jake, a soon to be 2 year old Husky mix who is the definition of a perfect dog. His owner was extremely young and decided to surrender him after her family lost their home. In order to prevent him from being left in the condemned home (that had no doors to keep him secure), the young owner and a family friend desperately searched for any placement that they could find. I was able to assist by picking him up around 1am, where I also learned he was hit by a car earlier in the day. He had no immediate signs of any injuries other then a scratch on his leg, so we kept him comfortable at the shelter for the night until our vet could see him. This morning he began to have labored breathing and things just didn’t seem right, so Marge got him right to the vet where they discovered he has a collapsed lung. I just dropped him off at the ER for treatment and am waiting to hear back about their plan. Once I know what is going on, I will update everyone and start a gofundme to assist in his payments. Please send some good vibes both Jake and his young owner’s way, as both deserve them right now.
