I'm securing loans and looking for scholarships. It's important I do my part, but I'm afraid it won't be enough! I need your help to realize this dream of going to Harvard, because one year costs $80,000.
Here is my story:
While our nation needs teachers who are prepared to kindle a thirst for learning in our students, there is a need for principals who are anxiously engaged in fostering the development of teachers and building strong school and home connections for all learners. I was accepted to and need help to pay for a graduate degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. With this money I will obtain an education administration degree and make a direct impact on hundreds of children each year as a school principal. My degree will position me to cultivate a school culture of acceptance, equity, and achievement. I will gain the knowledge to build a community of learners that extends beyond the classroom and is inclusive of all learners.
Five years ago I moved to Oklahoma to support my husband in his career. At the time, Oklahoma was the lowest paying state for educators, and as an elementary school teacher moving from central Texas, I took a $20,000 pay cut. Two years later, without warning, he walked out on me. As a teacher it was impossible for me to financially provide for myself on an Oklahoma teacher’s salary. I had to take a district administrative position to meet my obligations and miss working with children in the classroom!
I am determined to not let my circumstances define me! I am moving forward and seek to better myself and, at the same time, improve the lives of children in the education system. I applied to Harvard, a university I always assumed was out of my reach. I am delighted to report I was accepted!
Although I have always been a teacher, I now can return to school to obtain a degree in education administration. These donations will help me meet the financial demands of a graduate degree at the most prestigious university I could ever dream of attending.
