This is a bit of a long read but I want to be fully transparent about why I've created this! I've created this GoFundMe because we had a pipe start leaking in our garage / basement. We thought it was our washer originally and sent our washer off for repair, but the water continued to leak from somewhere. We kept looking but couldn't find an obvious leak, so we just kept trying to clean the water as it was a smaller area in the corner of the garage while we saved up to pay for a plumber consultation. The leak got worse, it was going up under the wall, we started to suspect it might be leaking from a half bath we have in the basement, so we stopped flushing the toilet and running the sink, which didn't seem to help much. My husband went to grab the laundry recently and he saw a pipe behind the washer pouring water, turns out, it was leaking from a pipe that leads to our dishwasher and kitchen sink. We never saw the pipe leak because we just conveniently never had the dishwasher or sink running while we were doing laundry at the same time. The leak has gotten significantly worse, and because it's dirty water coming from the sink and dishwasher, and because it's sat for a while now, there's mold that has attacked the floor, the walls, and has started spreading mold spores around the room. This is dangerous for us because I have severe asthma, we have a 2 year old, and my husband's work office is right next to the garage, and shares a wall with where the mold has grown. The plumber wants $2,900 to repair the leak because they said the pipe that is leaking is poor workmanship. It's been rigged with a crappy sealant, the pipe is way too small. This pipe leads to our sewage, which means they are going to have to tear up our backyard to access the pipe and spend a full 24 hours working on the pipe repair. Our homeowners insurance will not cover the pipe repair. Our homeowners insurance will cover the cost of the mold removal, which is $2,600, and the repair of the wall after the mold removal- up to $5,000. The mold removal company removes the mold and water, but they do not repair the wall and they are having to tear down an entire wall. We cannot leave this wall down because my husband works from home and deals with customers on the phone, so he needs a quiet room to work in as he is the only income. The catch with the homeowners insurance is that they will only cover up to $5,000, and that's if we are able to meet our deductible of $1,500- which we have not paid, so we will have to pay that before they will pay for the mold removal and wall repair. We are asking for help paying for these costs. We've been denied for every loan imaginable, and even if we got one we just can't manage to budget it in and afford to pay it off. We would be incredibly grateful for any amount! If we make any extra it will go to any cost of the drywall repair that may go over the $5000 that the insurance pays for.
