Hi my name is Lisa, as some of you may know I am, Emma’s aunt. Im doing this go-fund me page to help my sister Stacey and Laura out during this difficult time. My niece Emma was transferred to BCH from St Luke’s on 3/31 with double bacterial pneumonia & flu b. Unfortunately Emma could not keep her o2 sats above 90 and was quickly de sating and the ICU team needed to intervene and had to urgently place a breathing tube for Emma’s safety and the stability of her lungs, as minutes turned to hours Emma became more critical and needed to be placed on a machine called an ECMO for her lungs because she was at the highest settings on the ventilator and this could cause possible complications to the lungs and or heart so in order for Emma to heal correctly and get the proper rest and treatment she needs the next step was to place the ECMO machine to filter Emma’s co2 and her blood because she was carrying to much co2 and not putting it out also was becoming acidic and these are all things that can place Emma in grave danger. She is in a paralytic state and we won’t know how long she will need these machines, they have also spoke about a possible chest tube due to all the fluids Emma’s body is retaining we are at a stand still right now until further labs, ultrasounds and other tests are ran to determine if this is the next stage in her recovery.
