As many of you may know, Casa Pacifica’s Volunteer Coordinator, Sara Hidalgo, has been out on emergency family leave. Her twenty-three old daughter Amanda was suddenly hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Hospital on June 7th, diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. She is fighting for her life. The cancer has all but erased her blood platelets causing internal bleeding. 

 Currently she is undergoing a 28-day treatment regimen trying to get the cancer under control. Sara and her husband Art, have been at Amanda’s side constantly, along with their older daughter Emily when she is able. There is only one hard chair and a recliner/lounge chair in the room. Since, they are unable to afford to stay at a hotel near the hospital, at night either Art or Sara sleeps in the recliner while the other sleeps in the hard chair. They are both missing work, knowing that staying by their daughter’s side is crucial and will keep her strong, positive, and hopeful. In addition to the routine expenses they have of living their life, the hospital bills to come in the future will be enormous.

Once this 28-day treatment is completed, it is hoped that Amanda will be able to be transferred to a hospital in Ventura County for further treatment, close to home – making the logistics easier for the family.

We have established this GoFundMe page to support the Hidalgo Family and raise money for them to get a hotel room near Cedars-Sinai Hospital where one of them can go sleep while the other stays with Amanda – taking turns and keeping them rested and strong and better able to deal with the stressful demands of their situation. In addition, we would like to provide money for food, and help pay their monthly bills so they don’t have to worry about missing work and lost wages while they support their daughter’s treatment. And, if there is any money raised beyond what these basic needs total, the funds will go toward the medical bills to come.
