Earlier this year my brother Anthony left his full time Chiropractic job in Southern California to work on Covid-19 frontline at VA hospital providing respiratory care to veterans in Portland, Oregon. Over the past 2 months he developed a drug-resistant infection called Mycobacterium Abscessus in his arm that ended up requiring experimental medication & surgery to remove the infected tissue which had progressed into necrotizing fasciitis (meaning it was basically eating his flesh)
His recovery include having his arm is immobilized for 3-6 weeks in a special splint, taking potent anti-biotics for the next 3 months, doing regular lab work, imaging, dressing changes and about 1 year of physical therapy. Even though he thankfully has Kaiser insurance, there are still lots of copays he needs help paying towards his surgery and recovery treatments.
He won't be able to return to work at the VA hospital until having use of his arm back, but he has already used up all his PTO getting treatment and surgery for the infection so he's now unable to work and having to take unpaid leave. Plus his wife had to leave her job to be able to act as his full time caretaker while he is recovering. Any money raised will go towards his medical bills and their basic necessities to help them survive the next few weeks while my brother recovers and is unable to work.
They are also trying to sell their 2019 Keystone Fuzion 373 toy hauler & 2019 KTM 390 Duke motorcycle and asked that we to spread the word in case they are able to find a buyer for those.
