Virtual Land's End to John O'Groats
During Covid19 Saxon Group Riding for the Disabled has had to close. Whilst we cannot continue our activities for the riders we have lost all our income, and with such vulnerable participants it is likely we will remain closed for several more months yet. We desperately need funds to keep the horses and the group going, they still need feeding and caring for and we need to make sure we are in a position to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so. Without generating income through fundraising we risk closing permanently.
Jim and I have decided that during lockdown (and beyond!) we will run the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats, on a 'virtual' run. We aim to run about 40 miles per week, between April and December, around our home in Wiltshire. We need to clock up 1,083 miles in total to make the equivalent distance for LEJOG. Although I like running to keep fit, this effort to maintain these sorts of distances each week is tough, and to keep us on track there's a few half-marathon's thrown into the mix there too! Our target finish date is our wedding anniversary on 13th December.
If you want to follow our progress, we are tracking our runs on Strava so that you can see how far we have got, and there's regular updates in the GoFundMe campaign page.
If you can donate £10 you will be giving us just under a penny per mile that we run. A bargain by anyone's standards! Every donation will help, thank you in advance for whatever you can contribute to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about Saxon Group Riding for the Disabled: Saxon Group Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is a small, volunteer-run charity that provides life-changing horse riding, therapy and enjoyment to adults and children with physical and mental disabilities. Based in Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire, we provide riding sessions to help our participants with physical therapy, mental well-being and social interaction , focusing on what they CAN achieve.
