Hi all, and happy new year!
Well, we started 2023 with some challenging news. Lily, as many of you know has a congenital heart defect. The good news is at her cardiologist appointment on 1/3/23, she got a great report! No new deterioration. Stay the course of daily beta blockers, exercise and a healthy diet.
Now, the bad news. In addition to her heart defect, Lily was born with an eye problem called eyelid agenesis with corneal pigment fibrosis. She had minor surgery to attempt to fix the issue while still with the rescue, however as she has aged, the eye worsened and now requires a special surgery called lateral canthoplasty. This will be performed at CARE - Charlotte Animal Referral and Emergency by Dr Joshua Broadwater, a veterinary ophthalmologist.
We don’t have pet insurance, but keep an emergency fund for Lily’s potential cardiac needs. Unfortunately, once her yearly scans, echocardiogram and specialist visit were complete yesterday, there was nothing leftover for the very unexpected eye surgery. Kind of a double whammy!
Sadly, the longer we wait to do the surgery, the more likely she will lose vision, or worst case scenario, the eye. Obviously, she’s having the surgery; it’s not a question. We will make it work - she’s worth it.❤️ But I’m not afraid to ask for help offsetting the cost. If you’re able to pitch in, great - we appreciate every dollar. Thank you!
