Jump Start for Joe

Hi. My name is Susan and I’m raising funds for my friend Joe Weil. You might know Joe as a poet; you might know him as a proud working class stiff with deep union ties; you might know him as that guy who actually likes being from New Jersey, the poetry professor at SUNY Binghamton, or the guy who loves his two young kids more than anything in the world.

What you might not know is that Joe was the victim of a crime this summer. His bank accounts were accessed, and his savings drained into debt. Though he makes a steady living at the university, the money he makes can’t touch the damage that’s been done while also supporting his children.

I want Joe to get help. I want him to go to the police, to get a lawyer to go after the money that’s been stolen from him, to get full custody of his children, for whom he has been the primary caretaker.

But I can’t get Joe to do those things yet.

When I asked Joe what he needed most, his answer was clear: a safe car. Thanks to your generosity and love he has now achieved that goal. We are now moving towards what he needs next, which is permanent housing. Any amounts you can give or housing leads you may have will help.

I wish I could bring Joe the world. Instead, we have helped bring Joe a car, with your continued support we can get him home. If Joe’s teaching, writing, love, and unique presence has made your world a better place, I’m asking on his behalf: please. Make his world a better place. Just a little bit.
