It all started in late fall of 2014. Our founder was saddened by how so much good, re-usable and gently used items are thrown out each year. With the holidays at hand and so many people and families in need, it seemed a crime to send it to our already bursting landfills. Thus, 'Cheer for All' was created!
The first event was called Holiday Cheer For All and was held last December, shortly before Christmas. She sent out request for donations and volunteers to help with the event. When people found out what she was doing, the donations and volunteers started to roll in.
Now a little about the event(s) themselves. The events, Holiday Cheer for All, Spring Cheer for All and Summer's End Cheer for All, are designed so low income people can come and "shop" for whatever it is they need or can use, free of charge.
We depend heavily on organizations to donate Cheer For All a space to use for each event. Our last event, Spring Cheer for All was such a success we were scrambling for storage units to store our donations. We had one 10 x 10 unit donated and we thought that would be big enough. But, when people found out we were collection for another Cheer for All event the storage unit was filled within a few days. We were once again scrambling for a unit and luckily found a 10 x 20 unit to use for about 5 days. The donations kept coming and we had the second storage unit over half filled, with donations still coming in on the day of the event.
So now our problem is aquiring the storage space for year round use. We need adequate storage to hold donations we collect in an effort to fill the needs of low income people in our community.
We accept any donations, new and used, all year round. We realise that sometimes people have good, usable items they no longer want, but don't want to waste or send to the landfill. We are here to make those items available to people in need.
Any and all funds will go to the expenses of keeping the 'Cheer For All' going.
Those will include but. not limited to;
- Storage
- Advertising
- Transport/delivering
We have had gas cards donated also, to help our volunteers in transporting the donations. We hope to help those who do not have a means to get to the events. Also, we have had so many generous people still wanting to donate and our current space is getting full quickly.
Cheer For All Mission Statement:
- To help people in poverty obtain necessary items at no cost.
- To spread the wealth around by sharing.
- To be responsible and respectful of the environment by re-purposing what can be reused and reducing what goes into the landfills.
