"To all of my wonderful clients, I have some very bad news. On Friday, June 9th =, I suffered a catastrophic injury to my left foot. As some of you know, I am a Type 2 Diabetic with a significant case of Neuropathy in my feet. Sometime during my work day, I stepped on a rusty roofing tack that went into my foot. I did not even feel it penetrate my foot. I worked the next 4 or 5 hours with the rusty tack digging in and out of my foot. When I got home to take my shoes off, the left one would not come until I tugged it off only to find my foot was attached to my shoe by the rusty tack and a dirty blood-soaked sock.
I immediately went to a Centra Carespot for a Tetanus shot and to see what damage was done. After informing the doctor about my diabetes, they tested me and found my blood sugar was at 558. I was told I needed to go to the hospital to be admitted to keep me from having any cardiac issues and get my sugar levels down and keep my foot from getting infected. The jury is still out on my foot and the possibility of losing my foot became very real. The damage was crazy bad. The tack going in and out of my foot made the area look like Swiss cheese. I cannot walk on my foot. The wound is not something you can stitch up. It is a massive open wound that will only heal from the bottom up and inside out. I cannot work on it or get it dirty for the next 6-8 weeks.
In order to prepare for each workday, I have to consume a fair amount of pain meds. For energy to get thru the day, I have to consume too much sugar and caffeine. All these things combined have led to renal stresses that showed in my test results at the hospital. The combination of losing my foot if there is an uncontrolled infection, possible dialysis if my sugar is not brought under control as well and the pain meds I hate to take but need to get the job done is what is actually killing me. It has been like this for a couple of years, but I tried to tough it out. To no avail, I am losing that battle.
It breaks my heart to quit without notice and I sincerely apologize for putting you in a bind for your yard, but I have to take care of these issues. I hope you can understand and accept my apologies.
Thank you." -Eric Martin
