David "Dave" Sandoval passed away peacefully on July 20, 2022. As a former teacher and assistant principal, Dave was always a proponent of education and learning. The family is requesting donations that will be used as a scholarship fund for Dave’s grandchildren in lieu of flowers to assist in their pursuits to further their education.
Three years ago (Aug 2019), Dave suffered a brain bleed and traumatic brain injury following a fall that should have taken his life. He fought through a 3-month coma and ultimately woke up needing constant care. Dave’s wife, Mary, stepped up and took care of Dave as they adjusted to their new normal. The last three years have been difficult for Dave, Mary, and their children (Jonathan, Alexander, and Celine).
After waking from the coma, it took Dave several months to figure out a new routine. Now unable to walk, Dave was in a wheelchair and had to relearn how to control his movement and communicate. He overcame many obstacles and consistently proved doctors wrong with his capabilities. At the point where Dave would have been able to resume some daily activities and see family and friends, the pandemic struck. Mary and the kids did all they could to help Dave feel loved and as normal as possible throughout the time of isolation. The pandemic did prove to have some silver linings as it allowed Mary more time with Dave. Throughout the past few years, Dave continued to work to improve his situation and be present to see his grandsons Armand, Bennett, and Leo grow.
Over the last few months, Dave’s health took a turn for the worse. He was placed in hospice care a week before his death. After a long battle, Dave passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. Dave is survived by his wife Mary of 32 years, his three children, Jonathan, Alexander (Taylor), and Celine (Daniel), and his three grandsons, Armand (3 years), Bennett (15 months), and Leo (8 months).
Services for Dave will be held at St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa, CA (12687 California St, Yucaipa, CA 92399) on Thursday, September 1st, 2022, at 10 AM. Reception to follow at the VuePoint in the Altis Community (1555 Skystone Way, Beaumont, CA 92223).
