Dear Friends, Family & Community,
My name is Okey Baker, and I am from Belmont Blue Fields, Westmoreland, Jamaica. I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea on behalf of the families and neighbors in my hometown who have been devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
This hurricane has left a path of destruction across our community homes have been flattened, crops destroyed, and families displaced. Many of us have lost nearly everything. My own family and lifelong friends are among those affected, with several relatives now without a roof over their heads or access to clean water, food, or electricity.
Why Your Help Matters
When disasters like this strike, the effects are both immediate and long-term. Families are left without the essentials they need to survive the days ahead, let alone rebuild their lives. Your support can make the difference between despair and hope. Every donation will go directly toward providing critical supplies and support to families in Belmont Blue Fields and surrounding areas who have been hardest hit.
How Funds Will Be Used
To ensure full transparency, here’s a breakdown of how the funds raised will be spent:
Emergency Relief Supplies – Food, bottled water, hygiene kits, clothing, and medical supplies for families who have lost everything.
Rebuilding & Recovery – Purchasing basic tools, lumber, tarps, and materials to repair or rebuild damaged homes and community structures.
Shelter & Lighting – Providing tents, sleeping mats, and solar-powered lamps to those currently without power or safe housing.
Community Support & Distribution – Helping coordinate local volunteers, transportation of goods, and ensuring donations reach the most vulnerable families, including the elderly and single parents.
All distributions will be done in coordination with trusted local volunteers and community leaders to ensure funds are used exactly as described and reach those in genuine need.
