6 years ago September 11th I was excited to be giving birth to my first child. When we arrived at the hospital it was a mothers worst nightmare. Lucas had no heartbeat. They rushed me in for and emergency c-section and Lucas was unresponsive. They resuscitated him twice and still no response. 17 minutes later Lucas began to breathe. Our little miracle made it. After 3 weeks in the hospital Lucas was able to go home with little restriction. When Lucas was three months old I noticed he wasn't doing very much. He was diagnosed with stage two cerebral palsy and low vision, meaning no peripheral. Lucas had to have a feeding tube placed due to having 2 strokes, he lost his gag reflex. Life has been far from easy but that doesn't stop him from smiling and lighting up people's life with his infectious smile. About 3 months ago Lucas was  diagnosed with ESES, a rare form of epilepsy that only effects less than 1% of the United states. Not many neurologist know how to treat this condition. Lucas has about 2745 spikes every 25 minutes making it about impossible to sleep. Lucas has missed so much schools and activities because he's so lethargic.
The neuro surgeon recently placed a pacemaker in with leads attached to his Vegal nerve with hopes it could eventually calm these seizures. It failed. His body rejected it and we had to have several surgeries to remove the device because the infection in his body was so bad. Since we are unable to find a neurologist that can handle Lucas' case here in syracuse, Lucas is being sent to a neurologist out in Albany and an epileptologist in Rochester in hopes to find a medication to keep his seizures under control. Medicine to keep him going is costly along with other expenses such as, diapers, wipes, syringes for his feeding tube, medical bills and other many things. I'm unable to work as much as I'd like so I can properly care for him. He is everything to me. He's my hero. I would do anything to make his life just a little bit easier. I just wish everyone in the world could meet him just once, He would change your whole life.
