Milwaukee experienced historic flooding on Saturday August 9th. Some areas were hit harder than others. Our street was badly flooded with couches, garbage bins, manhole covers and cars picked up by the water. The wind and water pressure against our basement windows caused them to cave and pour water into the basement. The sump pump could not keep up, and the electrical wiring was damaged. The city also turned off gas lines for safety.
We evacuated with our girls, 6 month old son, and boxer Rambo. Mikaya was working overnight at the hospital, and Devon took the girls and the baby through knee/thigh high water to reach a friend's car and make it to safety.
Insurance is claiming not to cover the damages due to water. We did not have separate flood insurance. We are looking for help to replace appliances, replace our carpet in the basement, replace the windows that were blown in, and repair our furnace. Our end goal is in the ballpark of 15-20k. We are currently working with a emergency response coordinator, but they are overloaded with needs in the area.
