Andy Hazin is a 7 year old second grader at The Pines Elementary school in Smithtown, NY. He is a sweet, smart and kind little boy with a passion for ice hockey. He enjoys spending time with his family: mom, Rose, dad, Eric, sister, Abby and their dog Baxter, and watching his favorite team the NY Rangers. Andy has a smile that lights up a room and is a wonderful friend and amazing student. This January, Andy began having visual disturbances and weakness, and was diagnosed with DIPG.
DIPG stands for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. DIPG is a type of aggressive brain cancer that affects the brain stem. Surgery is not an option due to the location of the tumor in the brain. Andy will be undergoing palliative treatment with steroids and radiation.
In hockey slang, an "apple" is an assist on a goal, and Andy needs a big assist right now...so we've created "Apples for Andy". All money raised will be used towards medical bills and unforeseen expenses. Anything you can donate to relieve the burden of expenses so the Hazins can focus on family time together would be greatly appreciated. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and share this with as many people as you can!
