Hello. Im Jenn's sister, Mikayla. Jenn is 20, and was supposed to be a Junior in college. She has had a rough year. She underwent weightloss surgery in the spring and had a really hard time recovering. What we didnt know was that my sister had a raging infection in her gall bladder, making it impossible for her to hold down any food. She lost weight rapidly. As she got weaker and weaker, we took her to the hospital several times. Repeatedly they gave her fluids and sent her home. When it got to the point she could no longer walk, we insisted they look further than dehydration. Sure enough, they found out about her gall bladder and did surgery as soon as possible (it was put off a bit due to pancreatitis). When it seemed things were finally looking up, the world came crashing down. Originally diagnosed as a stroke, we later found out she had Wernicke's syndrome. She had been starved so heavily by her own body that when given standard post-op fluids, her body gave out. She was flown to a more advanced hospital immediately and triaged to the highest priority. She stayed under anesthesia for a day or two, and stayed asleep on her own a couple days after that. She is awake now, and in a rehab center. This costs 35$ out of pocket daily, putting aside all previous costs from the hospital. She had to withdraw from college, and lost all money she had from the school. This money was supposed to be used for living expenses for a shared apartment. The 1200$ is for her part in the rent. Seeing as though she wont be able to return to work or school anytime soon, Im simply asking for some help. Its weird, I never thought this could happen. She is only 20 and now has burdens she will carry the rest of her life. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much.
