I would like to introduce you to my Nephew Joe. He is 17 years old and was just a typical teenager up until a few months ago. That was a day that he, his family in South Carolina and his extended family in North Carolina will never forget.
Joe was not feeling well at all. He was complaining so much that his Mom (Karla) decided to take him for medical attention. Little did anyone know or even suspect that this was going to be the most horrible of days for all of us. You see, what Joe and Karla thought was just going to be a BUG turned into something unimaginable. Something that NO parent wants to hear. It was on this day the doctors told Joe and his family that he was in Stage 4 cancer that has already spread to his Liver, Lymph Nodes and both Lungs. We were all in such disbelief! How can this be? He is only 17 years old, has his whole life ahead of him. Why is God punishing him like this?
It it was then that I realized we cannot ask why of God, we can only ask "What can we do Lord" to give Joe the love and support he needs from us? Joe's Mom Karla recently posted on FB that she "fell to her knees and prayed to God for his healing hand to touch our Joe, to guide his doctors in treating him and bring him back to us as he was, whole in the spirit of Christ!
I will be the first person to admit that I am not a regular church goer, but I AM a Christian and I DO Believe in God and the power of his Word. I am sharing this story with all who read it for two reasons.
One, I am asking for your prayers for Joe and our Family. A few weeks ago we lost my Brother-In-Law to this horrible disease. It has left a void my sister will never be able to fill in her life. We are fighting a war, a battle of survival against Cancer. It strikes so many families every day. It wreaks havoc in our lives, destroys bodies, dreams, hopes, futures of us and our loved ones.
Two, the treatments are financially devastating to the family and his insurance does not even come close to covering it. They have travel expenses and lots of things that are needed to help Joe through this nightmare in his life. If you are of a mind to help with this, your donation would be so appreciated by us and I can assure you it will be going to Joe's expenses.
Those that know me are aware that I don't get involved with projects like this unless I believe in the reason. God has shown me the need to help my Nephew and his family fight this fight with all I can help them do. I totally understand if you cannot donate to our cause but may I ask that you at least say a prayer for Joe. Prayer is free and only takes a moment of your time. Thank you for reading this, please share with everyone on your friends list. Be a part of our getting Joe back on track to live a normal healthy life like he is entitled to!
