Pepi Dragotta had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest on the soccer field while playing a parents vs. the kids game with his 8 year old son, Hunter. Pepi is only 39 years old, and is an amazing husband and father to his 3 beautiful children. Fortunately, lots of other parents were there so once they realized he had collapsed, they checked for pulse and started CPR immediately. EMS arrived and had to use the defibrillator on him while waiting for the ambulance. Soon after, the helicoptor came and he was air-lifted to Cooper Medical Center. He was taken to the cath lab and where it was discovered that he has 4 blockages. Because of the unfortunate placement of these blockages, the doctors cannot put in stents so he will need to have quadruple bypass surgery. They decided to cool his body for 24 hours to preserve brain function and he has been in a medically-induced coma and on a ventillator. At 2 am today they started the rewarming process. Once he reaches the goal temp of 96.8 degrees, they will reduce sedation and hope he wakes up. Upon awakening, his brain function will be assessed and depending on the outcome surgery will be discussed. Pepi has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He is a 39 year old with open heart surgery in his future and needs our love, support and prayers. He has a wife and 3 kids that need him and depend on him so this will not be an easy recovery. I have known Pepi almost my whole life and he has always been willing to go out of his way for others and been a wonderful friend to so many of us. Please help!
