Dorothy's Leadership Trip

My name is Dorothy Mrema, and I have been selected to participate in the Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa. Out of 3020 applicants, only 26 were selected this year to participate. The women selected are between the ages of 19 and 25, and represent Africa’s most promising young women leaders with the courage and commitment to lead and shape the future of Africa. They are a new generation of African women leaders ready to provide the bold and inspirational leadership needed to lift Africa to its rightful place on the global stage.

My selection is in recognition of my commitment to African development through business partnerships with entrepreneurs across East Africa. My passion to see African countries participate in international trade, has led me to work for an organization called Karama,  which aims to alleviate poverty through purposeful employment. Karama partners with businesses all across East Africa, and assists them in selling their goods in the American market. As Karama’s main point of contact on the African continent, I procure and initiate business opportunities with artisan groups in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Malawi.

This has allowed me to be selected as one of the 26 fellows that will participate in a 3 week leadership conference this coming July in Accra, Ghana. I need to raise 2500 USD to cover my cost of attending, aswell as my travel expenses while in Ghana.
