My name's Ayda Cherrill and for two weeks in April 2025 I'll be travelling to Malaysia with my school, ISCA Academy and World Challenge UK - an overseas adventure travel organisation. This is such an fantastic opportunity for me to experience new cultures and explore new worlds. So EXCITED!

The aim of this Go Fund Me page is to fundraise the money needed to get me to Malaysia. If you'd like to donate, all amounts will be gratefully received. Thank you so much in advance!

What will I be doing on my trip?

During our first week in Malaysia, we'll be volunteering with the Melaka marine conservation initiative to save the rapidly depleting population of Hawksbill turtles. Around 200-300 of these turtles come to nest in this southwestern region every year but unfortunately they are critically endangered - their survival threatened by poaching, pollution and habitat destruction.

Whilst learning how to help fight these threats, we'll be patrolling beaches at night, collecting eggs, releasing baby hatchlings into the sea, helping to build turtle hatcheries and participating in beach cleanups. Check out more info on the plight of these Hawksbill turtles HERE.

My second week in Malaysia will include a two day trek through the Taman Negara National Park. It's one of the oldest tropical rainforests on the planet - estimated to be over 130 million years old. Boasting the highest biological diversity of any rainforest, it's home to the incredibly tall Tualung tree and animals such as Malayan tigers, Asian elephants and a multitude of bird species. Even the smallest rhinoceros lives here - the Sumatran rhino.

We'll also experience the Taman Negara at night, when all the creepy crawlies come out to play! Camping in an animal hide, we'll experience the rainforest from a different perspective and have the perfect view of the nocturnal wildlife.

How will I raise the money?

As part of my fundraising activities over the forthcoming months, I'm hoping to climb Snowdon, organise a sponsored swim and set up some plant and craft sales around Exeter, Devon.
