H. Brooks Durkee Memorial Award
The H. Brooks Durkee Memorial Leading Timber Rider Award fund has been set up by Brooks' many friends, as well as his family, in an effort to give back to the sport Brooks loved so much, and to keep his memory alive, particularly for his young son, Wesley.
A perpetual trophy will be chosen by the Durkee family and given on an annual basis, beginning in 2016, to the Maryland Steeplechase Association's Governor's Cup Series Leading Timber Rider, at the MSA's annual dinner. Brooks was the recipient of this award, as well as the Leading Rider Award, in 2008.
The trophy will be engraved with the name of the winner each year, presented and photographed, and then remain in the posession of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Durkee. The recipient will receive a smaller "take home" trophy, which will be purchased from this same fund, and later by members of Brooks' family. Any money remaining in the trophy fund will be contributed to the Scholarship Fund for Wesley Durkee, which has been set up by the Mt. Carmel Hounds.
Anyone contributing to this award, or interested in seeing it presented, is welcome to attend the annual awards dinner. Details can be found at http://www.marylandsteeplechaseassociation.com.
Brooks Durkee was a talented horseman and a loving father, son, brother, and friend. He left us too soon, on April 27, 2015, but will remain in our memories and our hearts, and through this award. Your generosity is forever appreciated.
