Help a family in need

Here is your opportunity to reach deep inside and help a family who really needs it right now.

Yes, I know we're in the middle of Covid-19, and I know money is hard to come by for some people. Yet, I appeal to you to do anything and everything you can to help Steve and his children get through this tough time.

Steve is currently dealing with a diagnosis of a Gastro-Oesophageal Tumour that resulted in him getting Dose-Dense Chemotherapy (DDC). DDC is a way to give chemotherapy regimens more frequently than normally scheduled, with less time between doses. DDC hopes to kill as much of the tumor as possible. The actual dose of chemotherapy is not increased, but the time between doses is shortened. By giving the same doses of chemotherapy more frequently, it interrupts the rapid growth phase of the tumor cells before undergoing a major operation (Ivor-Lewis Oesophago-Gastrectomy.

Steve has had a difficult life, he had a bad start in life, his childhood was a heartbreaking experience surrounded by drugs and abuse. He married at a young age had 2 daughters followed by another 2 daughters (Niamh and Aimee) but unfortunately both babies died in infancy due to Group B Strep Disease the heartache of this eventually led to a breakdown of the marriage.

Steve eventually rebuilt his life and after some time met a new partner and was overjoyed to discover a new baby was on the way but fate struck again and he faced the trauma of burying yet another newborn daughter (Cara). In time his youngest 2 were born Alexander & Ava. Life had a new purpose for Steve, he worked hard as a painter / decorator then he fell of some scaffolding and broke both his wrists. His right hand was badly damaged and the surgeon needed to use part of his hip bone to rebuild it. Unfortunately the company Steve worked for hit financial difficulty and ceased trading during Steve’s recovery period. Now he found himself unfit for work, feeling unwell and undergoing lots of tests which resulted in his cancer diagnosis. All this trauma in one young mans life!

Homeless accommodation , single parent, sole breadwinner for his young family. Still he soldiers on and in fact during this lockdown period where he should have been protecting himself he went round his elderly neighbours dropping of bags of food for them. He is trying to cope with providing a normal daily life for his children whilst he is facing more chemotherapy, unable to work through accident and illness.

They aren't rich people - they don't have a "nest egg" to fall back on because Steve has been unable to work for some time. He needs to worry about fighting cancer and his post operative cancer treatments, not worry about how he can pay his bills.

I've been friends with Steve for sometime and he is a wonderful Father with a huge heart. He's embarrassed to be in this predicament, and humbled at knowing he needs help. LET'S ALL DIG IN AND HELP THEM. There is NO SHAME in people helping people who really need it; Steve and the little ones really need it right now.

Will you join me and help Steve and his children through this difficult time. We would be grateful for anything that you can donate to help Steve and his family. Finance should be the last stress he needs to worry about during his battle against cancer. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
