A couple of months ago Mike was placed on the liver transplant list due to his diagnosis of Budd Chiari Syndrome. When he was put on the list, we were told that it could be a year before Mike received the transplant. Each month, we got updates and Mike's name grew closer and closer to the top of the list. After a routine appointment last week, Mike's doctor mentioned that he was next on the list to receive a liver transplant. It was such a relief to know that he would be getting a new liver within the next couple of weeks! As it turns out, Mike didn't have to wait a couple more weeks. The same day that he went in to see his doctor, he got the call. It was Mike's turn to get a new liver and it was a match!
Mike's surgery was on Thursday, January 26th. The eight-hour long surgery was successful. Mike spent the next couple of days recovering in the ICU. In typical Mike fashion, he's made friends with every doctor and nurse that he's encountered.
Mike is continuing to recover in the hospital. It's unclear how long he will be there. After he is home, Mike will rest and recover for the next couple of months.
With Mike not being able to work and Megan taking off work to help Mike recover, we wanted to start this campaign. We hope to raise money to support their family's expenses over the next couple of months. Our goal is for Mike to be able to focus on getting better and not have to worry about the medical bills that will soon be coming in.
