Camille's Road to Recovery

Dear Friends and Family of Camille,

On Sunday September 21, 2025 I arrived in Vallejo as I had many time before, excited to spend a couple months working harvest alongside Camille and all the good things that come with a stay at Chez Benitah….delicious dinners, garden projects, baking, laughing, oh so much laughing. Except this arrival was different because as soon as I walked in the door and settled in on the couch across from Camille, I knew something wasn’t right. Within a few hours, I was on the phone with 911 dispatch and within minutes we were en route to John Muir Memorial Hospital's Emergency room where we would ultimately learn that Camille had suffered a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage of the brain. After multiple operations and four weeks in the ICU, Camille is still hospitalized but transitioning to the rehabilitation phase of treatment.

Many of Camille's close community have stepped in with logistical support, however as the days turn into weeks, and weeks into months it has become clear that this person who has given so much of herself to so many over the years will be in need of a more robust financial safety net in order to focus on a full and complete recovery.

Camille is an independent contractor and therefore is not protected by workers compensation insurance or any sort of state funded medical leave programs, making this request not just urgent but critical.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION DIRECTLY SUPPORTS:

1. Camille's in home aftercare which will need to paid for out of pocket. She will be allotted only a few weeks of inpatient rehabilitation with Kaiser.

2. Continued treatment with doctors and specialists who are not covered by insurance.

3. Household bills and Camille's cost of living expenses while she is recovering at home.

4. Some modifications to the home to make it more accessible for this life change.
