Junipers Vet Bills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jessi and I have a 2 year old American Staffordshire Terrier named Juniper. On Tuesday April 26 June was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia after I noticed lethargy, decreased appetite, and dark urine. This is an autoimmune disorder in which her immune system attacks her red blood cells, making it difficult for her to get oxygen and blood to her organs. June recently had a mast cell tumor removed from her front leg, and it’s likely that treatment caused this flare up of autoimmune response. (I’m still trying to pay off vet bills from that surgery back in February). On Tuesday alone just for my regular vet to diagnose her the cost was over $700. Now only two days later we’ve racked up over $6,000 in vet bills. Juniper had an over night stay at VRCC, an emergency vet near Short Pump in Richmond, VA. They gave her a blood transfusion which did not help her red blood cell count. Vets explained this can take a few tries before it starts to help with her cell count. She’s since been moved to VVC in Carytown in Richmond where she’s having ultrasounds, x rays, more blood transfusions, and IV medications. She’ll stay at least tonight and will likely need to stay longer until we get her levels stable enough for her to come home. Hopefully this can happen soon and we can treat her condition with oral immunosuppressants long term and she will continue to live a happy life with us. Unfortunately I have no idea when this will happen and the longer she stays and the more blood transfusions she needs, the more these bills add up. This is very embarrassing to be asking for money, but I really have no other options as her pet insurance won’t cover this. Please consider helping me while I work to keep my Junie healthy. She’s the light of my life and such a sweet girl. My world would be darker without her.
