Shawn is an incredible son, brother, father, husband, and friend. I couldn't ask for a better partner in life or parenthood and the love he has for his two sons is incredible.

On the morning of October 26, I got the call I never wanted to get but always feared. Shawn was involved in a serious motorcycle accident and was sedated and intubated in the hospital.

Shawn is currently still unconscious and is working hard to breathe on his own, but still relies on the ventilator for support. He fractured his neck and hyoid, broke his Adam's apple (still can't believe that's even possible), fractured his pelvis, shattered his right wrist, and broke his left wrist across both bones. His wrists required over seven hours of surgery. He also has a traumatic brain injury that is a major concern.

Right now, we're taking things day by day. We've been told not to expect big changes from one day to the next. Some days, we'll take small steps forward and other days might yield no change. We may also have days where we take a step backwards. There isn't a good timeline for Shawn's recovery due to the nature of brain injuries and we've yet to see what exactly recovery will mean for Shawn. He's a fighter, though, and none of us are giving up hope. His care team is encouraging us to celebrate all of the good things so far.

As much as I hate to think of something like money at a time like this, the unfortunate fact is that life and bills go on. On top of whatever medical bills will arise from this, we still have our normal family expenses like rent, groceries, car payment, insurance, utilities, etc. Obviously, this situation is also impacting both of our ability to work. We're looking at probably 2 weeks to a month minimum before he even leaves the ICU, and our journey continues long after that.

We greatly appreciate any assistance, whether it be donation or support. This is a marathon, not a sprint and we appreciate any help we can get.
