It is with a great sadness that I must report Sergeant Barry Coker, of the Amesbury Massachusetts Police Department and his wife Danielle need our help. Recently their only son Matthew, who was only 23 years old, passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness at Brigham and Women's Hospital on August 4th 2021. Matthew graduated from Amesbury High School in 2016 and was a most courageous and humble young man. He loved life and fought hard until the end. He will be missed by so many.
He loved his job and Vermette's supermarket and loved his work family. He loved spending time with his friends and always had a blast with them. He had an infectious laugh and always brightened a room.
No parent should ever have to do what Barry and Danielle have done. They have struggled for years and have never left Matthew's side. Now as funeral expenses add up and create additional stress please help us here at the Amesbury Police Department raise money for Barry and Danielle to offset the cost. As fellow sons and daughters, mothers and fathers please help Barry and Danielle do the unthinkable, say goodbye to their only child, Matthew.
Matthew was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow failure disorder as a child (Diamond Blackfan Anemia).
With my deepest regrets,
Craig J Bailey,
Chief of Police
