My brother Josh has a love of horse and good old fashioned hard work. 6 years ago while out working cattle on the back of his beloved horse and best friend Mickey his right leg was rooted by an angry cow. My brother being the tough cowboy I know continued on with sorting cattle and doing what needed to be done. The leg never gave him much trouble at least that he couldn't tolerate. In the last few months the leg had swollen and developed a swollen spot which was causing him extreme pain. For the last few weeks my mom and I have had him in and out of specialists and the ER. On Monday the Dr's did blood work which showed intense infection. Yesterday morning we were at the hospital for an MRI and then immediately into emergency surgery.. the following was my Facebook update when Josh came out of surgery:
He is out of surgery but the Dr. has suggested an amputation of his right leg. Mom and I have decided to let him make the final decision if he decides to go ahead with it the surgery will be done on Sunday. His other option is bone graphs and a lot of surgeries, amputation is in the Dr's opinion his best option. I do ask that any and all questions come to me, my mom needs to focus on Josh and he needs to focus on healing.
Now with all of this being said as everyone knows I'm always on the opposite side of these kind of tragedies now being on the inside looking out, I'm asking for help with my own family. I'm asking for help with the everyday bills (mortgage, truck payment, horse feed, etc.) my brother has plus medical bills he will be acquiring through surgeries or the cost of his possible prosthetic. As anyone who knows my brother he is the guy that will drop anything to help anyone let's come together and help him in this tragic process. Please say a prayer for strength for my family through this. And thank you in advance for any and all help.
This morning the surgical nurse and I told him that the Dr. believes amputation is his best option. He handled better then expected and is coming to terms with losing his leg. He will need all the support he can get through the next month's while he transitions into a new way of life. Let's help him get back to what he loves and back in the saddle. Thank you in advance.
