Hi everyone,
My name is Shanice Rhoden, and I was born and raised in the beautiful parish of Hanover, Jamaica. A place known for its warm people, breathtaking beaches, and deep cultural pride. Today, that same place I call home is unrecognizable.
A powerful hurricane recently tore through Jamaica, leaving behind heartbreak, destruction, and uncertainty. Entire communities have been washed away. Families have lost their homes, their crops, their businesses everything they’ve worked a lifetime to build. Hanover, once the tourism capital filled with laughter and life, is now struggling to recover.
As someone now living in Brooklyn, my heart aches watching from afar as my family, friends, and neighbors face unimaginable hardship. I’ve spent days in tears listening to their stories mothers trying to find food for their children, elders sleeping in shelters with no access to clean water, and young people wondering how they’ll rebuild when everything they owned is gone.
I couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.
So, I’ve started this GoFundMe to raise funds to help families in Hanover get back on their feet. Every single dollar will go toward:
• Supplying food, clean water, and basic toiletries
• Providing temporary shelter and bedding
• Helping rebuild homes and small businesses
• Supporting children and elders who are especially vulnerable right now
No act of kindness is too small. Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation will make a real difference for someone who has lost everything.
If you’ve ever been touched by the warmth of Jamaica through our music, our culture, or our people, this is your chance to give back to a community that has given so much joy to the world.
I’ll be personally overseeing the relief effort to ensure that donations reach those who need them most in Hanover. I’ll also be sharing updates, photos, and stories from the people your generosity helps so you can see the impact of your kindness firsthand.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, and donating. The people of Hanover are resilient, but right now, they need a helping hand. Together, we can remind them that they’re not alone that love, hope, and community are stronger than any storm.
With love and gratitude,
Shanice Rhoden
