Help for the Cross family
- Our world just came to a literal crash.
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Alicia I’m a stay at home mom of an awesome 10 year old son Eric Jr and wife to my world Eric. I have been with Eric for what seems like forever, actually August 20th will be 25 years together. We have been through some extremely hard times and have been able to pull through everyone of them. This one is going to take more help.
Eric is the hardest working man I know. He provides everything for our son and myself. He is the type of guy that will drop anything or put his needs aside to help a friend and never ask for anything in return. He over works himself so we can have a good life. Now our home and Autobody shop may be in jeopardy. We have nothing to keep us going. He has worked his ass off to provide a safe home for our son. I hate to see all that he worked for be destroyed by something that was unavoidable.
It’s Thursday August 12th, our excitement to leave for Mountain Madness in New York is building. Our truck and trailer is loaded up with our side by sides. Our son is counting down the minutes until we get to leave, he couldn’t wait to go ride and play in the mud. About 3:15pm I decide to leave so I can drop off our dog with my mother in law. I call Eric to find out where to meet him. I decide to just start driving down the Mass turnpike to head to New York. Eric calls me to tell me he is on his way. We decide to meet at the next rest stop on the turnpike I get to, our son wanted to ride with dad in his truck, thankfully we never got that chance. As I’m driving I see signs for a thunderstorm warning, the sky gets darker as we drive. It gets so bad we have to pull over and let it pass.
My phone rings it’s a call from Eric that I never thought I would get. MY TRUCK ITS GONE!!!!! WHAT! I’m going to find the next exit and turn around so I can find you! This felt like forever, the exits were so far away. I finally get to an exit and try to call Eric, I get nothing the worry and fear build more. As I’m driving, hoping to see him drive by me thinking this has to be some stupid prank he’s trying to pull on me. I see it there’s flashing lights everywhere and tons of traffic. There is his truck and trailer or what is left of it.
Finally I get him on the phone he’s in an ambulance on his way to the hospital. I get there and finally get to see him. My heart drops, never would I ever imagine I would have to see him like this. Our son sees him and doesn’t know what to think or how to feel, he’s in shock. Eric is ok enough to tell me what had caused the accident. A tractor trailer swerved in and out of his lane, he then changed lanes quickly only to reveal a three car accident immediately in front him. He had no time to avoid it, the only choice was to take a hit on the left or right side of his truck. Thankfully he made the choice to go to the left. I could have been writing this for help with funeral expenses. Fifty miles an hour to dead stopped into the back of a tractor trailer, one that had no flashers on and no cones out in the middle of a bad storm.
He now sits in the hospital with a fractured pelvis and a broken femur waiting to see what is going to be done to help him get back on his feet. I’m sure we will have a long road to recovery. But maybe with everyone’s help he can not worry about finances and focus on his health and getting back to us.
