Wife, mother, grandmother, and much loved friend Virginia Johnson suffered a serious hemorrhagic stroke on November 5th.  10 days in critical care and over 20 days in the hospital, she is now in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility fighting to recover.  Up until now, she has been through a lifesaving brain surgery, life support, fluid in the lungs, paralysis and impaired cognitive function with speech and memory loss. The good news, she is a fighter! 

A stoke like this is life-changing at best.  My dad has not missed one day of being by her bedside.  Their marriage and his commitment is so inspiring!  Her progress has been inspiring too.  Every bit of progress is met with such excitement!  We have lots of hope that she will recover but reality does set in and we know it will be a long road.

Now we are faced with another obstacle, the financial part.  As of last week, because her mental capacities are not matching her physical mobility, she is considered High Risk at the nursing facility. She has tried to get out of bed or her wheelchair numerous times and becomes feisty and obstinate.  The facility has required that my dad and our family pay out of pocket for this 24/7 one-on-one care.  So far, we have incurred over $2,000 in just the last 5 days and depending on how long this is needed, my dad faces paying up to $3,000 a week.  This in addition to the upwards of $6,000 - 8,000 in co-pays and rehabilitation care, we are overwhelmed with the costs.

To our friends and family, we are asking for help.  We are doing everything we can to be present and sit alongside her but it is hard since both my brother and I need to work full time and raise our kids.  This is not easy to ask but we are pulling out the white flag and asking for help.  Your contribution will be much appreciated and I assure you, not forgotten.  We are hoping to raise $15,000 to cover these unexpected costs including co-pays and rehabilitation.
