Hi all, we are the Amsterdam GAA hurling team, and we’ve made it all the way to the Leinster Special Junior Final on November 22nd vs Longford Slashers after an unforgettable semi-final win last weekend against Rathmolyon of Meath.
However, we’re now facing the financial challenge of getting our squad, of nearly 30 players, back to Ireland on short notice — and we need your help to make it happen.
To make things interesting and have a bit of craic while fundraising, we have decided to partake in some Milestone challenges:
· For every €150 raised – a player from the squad waxes one leg (starting with the hairiest lads first!).
· €500 – Shane takes on the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Shane Corridon hails from the Costa Del Kerry and spends any free time he has sunbathing on the tropical beaches of Ballyheigue. While some people pay for the experience of a cold plunge it is truly Shanes worst nightmare, rumour has it he wears a wetsuit in the shower!
· €850 – Dara shaves his moustache.
Recently mentioned on ClubberTV during their semi-final battle, this is a two-time award winning moustache. This moustache is as beautiful as it is simplistic – a humble masterpiece that never tried to be anything it is not. It will be sorely missed from his upper lip if this milestone is hit!
· €1000 – Dam Square Flash Mob
Not to be confused with a mob of flashers, this milestone would see a group of the hurling squad take to Dam Square to serenade passers-by with a beautiful rendition of a soon to be disclosed Irish classic.
· €1500 – Players Canal Plunge
Filthy, dirty, rotten – just a few words that have been used to describe the Amsterdam hurlers who will have to jump, in full kit, into the crystal blue waters of an Amsterdam canal if this milestone is hit!
· €2500 – Con Mahon shaves his head
It took a lot of persuasion to convince Con of this one….. however the promise of peak aerodynamic efficiency won him over as he ventures for that sub 3-hour marathon!
Every euro will go towards aiding us to represent Amsterdam (and Europe!) on Irish soil again. Thank you for supporting us — and hopefully we can go on and do ourselves and our supporters proud on the 22nd November!
