Kelly's Battle with Cancer

As most of you know, my mom (Kelly Rice) has been battling stage 4 Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer for almost 6 years. When she was diagnosed, we were told she would only live for approximately 18 months. Mom was put on a targeted therapy drug (Tagrisso). We were blessed with that medication working for a lot longer than they expected. But unfortunately, the time has come that it is no longer working. Her only “traditional” treatment available right now is chemo and radiation. Chemo is keeping my mom stable as of right now, but we all know chemo comes with its fair share of life changing side effects. For example, chemo has ruined her immune system and her doctor recently informed her that she should stay away from groups of people, which changes everyday life. Chemo is really just a “bandaid” for her as of right now, unless a new targeted therapy happens to come along. Her cancer has spread very quickly from her right lung to her left lung, some lymph nodes, and is now in her brain as well. Also, her liver is not handling the chemo well at all. Time is not our friend. We have explored and researched many places and have found a place that looks like it could be very beneficial to mom. This could be our last chance and our only hope before it’s too late. We all need her. This has been an ongoing battle for almost 6 years and my mom is tired. Our family has a goal to send her to a holistic treatment facility. If we do not meet our financial goal towards that, we will use the money raised for other holistic therapies. This is my only parent and I need her. She has so much more to see of my 3 siblings and her grand kids life. With her love and passion for animals, we are going to start something called “Treats for Treatment”. Mom, with the help of family, will be making homemade dog treats to sell and will be using that money towards treatments.
