Wybie is a very special cat, as anyone who meets her will attest to. Since I adopted her 11 years ago, we've been through life's ups and downs. We go to the park together, and have shared a sleeping bag.
These past 2 years have come with a lot of loss for me, in so many ways and forms. When I was at my lowest, not thinking I could go on, I truly believe she saved my life. We share a special bond that really transcends words. To say she has a personality, is quite the understatement. She is both a comedian and an empath. She loves every living creature unconditionally.
Last week I found her unable to breathe, so I rushed her to emergency. She was immediately put on oxygen for 3 days, and underwent every test imaginable, and was monitored around the clock. After 4 incredibly stressful days, she was able to breathe on her own and stable enough to come home. They believe it's a viral respiratory infection, which she is now on antibiotics for. When I went to pick her up, all of the vet techs came out to say goodbye, and said she was their absolute favourite (a bit awkward with others in the waiting room lol). I finally have my best friend back home and looking more like her old self.
The bill was a staggering $6,519.46. A close friend, my guardian angel, covered it up front, but I need to pay them back ASAP. I do have pet insurance, but they keep reviewing it, and I fear push-back, but will keep pushing.
This huge hit comes after a full year that I have been unable to work full time.
- My Dad has severe Alzheimer's and dementia, and is declining very quickly. He's been in the hospital twice the past month, and I've been trying to spend as much time with him as possible. Which is hard when he is 2+ hours away.
- The film industry is STILL recovering, I've had 2 major films fall through. I didn't work enough hours last year to qualify for EI, or keep my benefits with my union.
- I've been volunteering at a "pay what you can" market in exchange for groceries. I've applied everywhere, for absolutely anything, but the job market is so slow. Any time I am not job searching, I have been volunteering with the Toronto Cat Rescue and facilitating various support groups that had helped me. I did work a part-time seasonal retail job, I hustle every day, but my back is against the wall.
The 2 living beings who are my biggest source of love and support, are now both in need of mine. I currently cannot pay rent ($1800), my cell bill ($150.. for 3 months unpaid), or the vet bill ($6519.46). Nor can I even afford to take her back in for a check-up ($150) or renew her antibiotics ($50+). Let alone any other bills, but those all seem secondary in comparison to these.
I am reaching out, asking for any support you can offer. Whether that's a donation, sharing this with others, or even some words of support. I know we are all in tough financial times, so truly no pressure. But if you have even $5 or $20 to give, it is greatly appreciated. Your kindness means more than words can say. Thank you for listening. xo
