Wyatt's Education Fund in Memory of Robert Groome
Donation protected
Robert Groome unexpectedly died on October 18, 2020 at the age of 36. He leaves behind his loving wife Alex, his 14-month-old son Wyatt, and a grieving family.
Rob loved fishing, Star Wars, the Carolina Panthers, cowboy camping, the smell of the ocean, sitting by the fire, fresh seafood and his friends and family. He hated fake pleasantries, injustice and well-done steaks. He was known for his outgoing personality, his incredible sense of humor, his adoration of his wife and son, and his ability to connect with others through deep meaningful conversations. Rob never met a stranger. When he authentically showed up, he would create a space for others to do the same which meant that good times would be had by all. Rob was so loved, in fact, that friends and family were even willing to overlook his misguided affection for Nicholas Cage movies.
Rob’s death was sudden and tragic. Those of us that loved him are left with questions and a gaping hole in our hearts. But he also left us with something beautiful; he left us with hope. Wyatt Groome was born to Rob and Alex Groome 14 months ago. Wyatt has his father’s eyes, half-mouthed smirks, mischievous sense of humor, love of the outdoors, and utter devotion to Alex. Wyatt was deeply beloved by his father, and embodies so many of the qualities that all of us found most endearing about Rob.
As Alex and Wyatt struggle to grieve the loss of their husband/father, plan a spring memorial, pay off Robs COVID-19 related medical bills, and adjust to life without his emotional support, financial help and constant love, friends and family have set up an Edward Jones account for Wyatt’s future educational needs. In lieu of flowers, we ask for people to consider donating. Any proceeds raised will be directly deposited into Wyatt’s educational fund.
Rob will be missed by many. Our grief and tears will slowly heal over time, while Wyatt’s loss will only grow through the years as he begins to grasp the gravity of this loss. This is a heartbreak no child should have to bear. Please join us in covering him in prayer, showering him with love and giving in a way that supports Rob’s ultimate legacy- his son, Wyatt.
