Hope for Hayden

Our dear nephew, Hayden Ballou, is going to war against an enemy that no child should ever have to meet. That enemy is cancer. This will be Hayden’s second battle against cancer as he has already beaten leukemia once.

Hayden is 12 years old and is in 6th grade. He is an exceptionally kind and tender-hearted kid that loves fishing and playing football with his friends. He and his family (mom, dad, & 3 sisters) work hard each holiday season to send dozens of boxes to children in need through Operation Christmas Child. This is just one example of the family’s dedication to helping others.

Last week, Hayden started running low grade fevers, had a decreased appetite, and his mom, Ashley Ballou, noticed he was sleeping more than usual. On Friday morning, September 24th, Ashley took Hayden to have blood work drawn. Later that afternoon, the Ballou family received the devastating news of cancer relapse.

The oncology physicians directed the Ballou’s to take Hayden to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri right away. Hayden will go

to surgery this week to get a bone marrow biopsy and a port in his chest to begin chemotherapy. There will be many more tests ahead and they will be admitted to the hospital for an undetermined amount of time.

We started this gofundme to ease the burden of Hayden’s parents, Ashley and William. They both have full time jobs to support their 4 children. In the days, weeks, and months ahead they will need to be with Hayden in the hospital and at countless doctor’s appointments. As you can imagine the normal cost of living- rent, food, gas, car, etc, plus medical expenses will be astronomical.
