Foundations For Life Learning (FFL) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to empower and support youth in Central Brooklyn, New York, with the necessary educational, cultural and social services to meet their life needs. FFL’s after school program, Foundations for Youth, is the core of the organization, and it is in these programs that FFL addresses one of the root causes of poverty in our communities- educational inequity. In our after school setting, we offer unique programming based on the multiple-intelligence and accelerated learning techniques (we need to insert a link that will direct readers to a site that will provide information on these techniques).
Access to a quality education leads to higher earnings over a lifetime, and overall it improves social mobility. However, children living in low-income neighborhoods have less access to quality schools, and due to their socioeconomic status, they lack the resources to capitalize on supplemental tools and services that can fill in the educational gaps created by this lack of access. FFL is committed to developing youth into individuals with a life long love of learning and providing them with the tools necessary to succeed in college as well as in the workforce.
As FFL continues to grow we will integrate a civic engagement component where participants will identify and research needs in their communities, developing and implementing project plans to meet these needs, and a work readiness program that will provide participants with access to internships in a field aligned with their career goals.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $5000 to provide 50 students from Central Brooklyn with the opportunity to attend yearlong programming at FFL, inclusive of an 8-week summer program where we will expand on our after-school education curriculum, and engage participants in educationally enriching field trips enabling them to connect concepts with practice.
