Hello we are Covina National Little League located in the city of Covina, California. Our Little League was established in 1954. In good times the city of Covina had three little leagues now there is just one. We offer Little League baseball and softball and our Challenger division for the children that have special needs. We desperately need help to fix our fields and surrounding property. We have three main problems of interest first our sprinkler system it is outdated and it leaks and as the pictures show we don't have much green area. Second our scoreboards on both our baseball and softball fields are very old and do not work the repairman said it's not worth putting money into. And last our announcing equipment most times it doesn't work and we can't even announce the games.
Like most all Little Leagues in our area we are located on school property but unlike the other leagues we have to pay our own water and utilities. So even in the part of the year when we aren't playing we still have to pay bills. With our current water system we can get the fields and surrounding areas green but it cost us way to much to do because of all the leaking. So the surrounding areas of our park don't get water very much and the fields mostly get watered by hand. Being in a drought area we have water restrictions and unfortunately we can only water certain days. But the leaking makes it not worth the effort.
Second our scoreboards on both fields are ancient, and our repair person has told us the parts are hard to get and it is just not worth fixing anymore. Fix one part and another goes bad. It has been a tough year not being able to show the score, inning or outs in a game.
Then you add in the fact that our announcing equipment doesn't work and most times you can't even announce the players name. And kids love to hear that sound "now batting #7 Jimmy Jones". It's a big part of the game.
We are a non profit and have reached out to the business community, but we haven't had much luck besides donating items to our fund raisers, which we greatly appreciate. We have 250 children that play in our league, and we know more will come and play if we can offer the facility that would make everyone proud. We were that place and we want to get back to it, but we need your help. If we can get this help by November 1, 2016 we can get our field ready by February 2017 tryouts.
We understand that $50,000 is a large amount to raise, we have many other items that whatever money is left after we finish these objectives will be taken care of. Some new equipment, batting cages and practice area, and upgraded snack bar equipment to start with. We also would gladly accept any donations of equipment, supplies, or just your time. Fell free to contact me.
We are a non profit organization, and all board members and coaches are volunteers. Our Federal Tax ID # 52-1242210
From all the players, coaches, parents and the city of Covina, we appreciate any donation you could give to us. And look for our name at Williamsport, home of the Little League world series, some day.
Thank you.
