On 4th November we were once again forced to shut our park as part of national COVID-19 control measures, which means that once again we have no steady source of income coming in to the park. This was a very difficult decision to make as we tried to work out the best options we could to try to secure the jobs of almost 80 employees and ensure that we can sustain a good level of animal welfare for the animals in our park. This is the second time in 2020 we have had to shut due to COVID-19 lockdown measures.
We have done everything we can to try and set ourselves up for tough times ahead, but we would be lying if we claimed that we didn’t need your support, especially at this time where we do not know exactly how long this will go on for. This covers everything from animal feed provisions, securing staff, having extra veterinary protocols in place and even preparing for if we need to go to a full lock down and need to think about increasing staff members on site for a short period.
Whether we are open or closed, to run our park on average costs a minimum of £52,600 per week (this is where our goal comes from - we're looking for all the support we can get but when choosing a number just that one week budget made sense). This doesn’t include unexpected veterinary bills, unexpected repair work and of course Sandwich Wildlife Park, with both parks being funded together. By helping one of our parks, you are invariably helping the animals at both parks!
We have had people ask about how they can support us and what makes the biggest impact. To be honest, every single ounce of support we receive from you, no matter how small you think it is, will make a difference to us. We know that you are also in a tough position at the moment and it means a lot to us to know that you are thinking of us.
