William W. Gerber III Golf Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Our Dad loved golf. We continually hear from friends and acquaintances how he made an impact on their own golf game. With your support, we’d like to keep his legacy going and give aspiring college-bound golfers the opportunity to pursue their dream.
A scratch golfer, Bill was inducted in the Greater Syracuse Golf Hall Of Fame in 2003. Empire Magazine named him amateur golfer of the decade in the 70s. From the Onondaga Junior Championship in 1961 to qualifying for the British Amateur in 1981, he was Syracuse’s winningest amateur golfer for two decades. In between, his wins included the Syracuse District Championship three times, Craig Wood Amateur Championship in Lake Placid twice, and three Syracuse Herald amateurs.
He played in 5 U.S. Amateur golf championships, 5 British Amateurs, 3 Canadian Amateurs, 1 French Amateur, and a record 18 straight New York State Amateurs (he medaled in NYSA four times).
One of his greatest joys, even with this prestigious resume, was teaching young golfers at the Grenadier Island Country Club. We know this scholarship would make him happy and proud.
All money donated will fund the William W. Gerber III Golf Scholarship at the Syracuse District Golf Association. The scholarship goes to college-bound high school students with a strong interest in golf.
