WW2 Veteran and Selfless Man in need

What my grandpa means to me I cannot describe in words. He is the most selfless human being I have ever known and lived his every moment of his life this way.

My grandfather is 98 years old and a former marine. He is a world war 2 veteran. He fought in iwo jima and was present in many iconic World War 2 battles and photographs I have shown. He would detonate landmines which saved countless lives. Growing up he told me many stories of how many lives he saved and friends he saw killed before him. When my grandfather left the service he went to school to become an elementary school teacher, furthuring his ambition to help others who really needed it. All of his life he never has asked nor expected recognition for his service or other good deeds for the community. He is a firm believer in doing what is right because it is right. He has never asked for any help his entire life. He is now at a time in his life where he needs it.

My grandfather and grandmother came to carson valley to retire in the late 80s. My mom was a single mother who worked full time. My grandparents were in their 80s and took on the role of caring for two young kids, myself and my brother in my fathers absense. He made me lunch everyday and picked me up from school everyday. He taught me life lessons I will carry with me for a lifetime. He always stressed to be a good person, get an education, and do what is right for your country. I did not have a father growing up but I did not need one. My grandfather was the best father I could have ever ask for.

My grandparents were very frugal and saved money throughout their retirement by savings and purchasing properties. Around 2010 my grandmother fell ill with dementia and it ultimately meant she had to have full time demetia care and my grandfather was too frail to care for her. She was placed in a dementia care home which cost 10,000$ a month and in a short 2 years my grandparents lost their life savings shortly before my grandmother passed away.

My grandfather is facing the same issue now. He is very frail and heart function at only 30% and he has stopped being able to walk. He not only does not think he has much time here but he is unsure where he can go for full time care. He is struggling finding a home to care for him and getting medicaid approval. They are requiring he spend his last $6000 in savings before qualifying for medicaid. He only has 2 months left of savings for the chateau he is currently at in town.

We are trying to raise funds to get him moved to to a VA assisted living facility so my grandfather is not left completely penniless. He has sacrificed for his country and sacrificed his retirement to raise 2 small kids and help countless strangers and family members. It breaks my own heart I cannot help him financially. If I did not have to work I would care for him in an instant.

My grandfather has requested the VA assisted living so he can spend his remaining time with his fellow veterans. Any help, prayers, and good thoughts are greatly appreciated. This dollar amount will be able to transfer him there and buy him a few months. To learn about my grandfather and his service please read the Nevada Appeal article released on Saturday Feb 22.
