My name is Sadé, and my heart is heavy as I share that my hometown of Falmouth, Trelawny, in Jamaica, was severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa. The devastation has left many families — including my own — struggling to rebuild their lives from the ground up.
Many of you have seen the heartbreaking devastation that Hurricane Melissa left behind in Jamaica. Much of the news has focused on the larger cities, but today I want to shed light on a small corner of the island that means the world to me — my hometown, Falmouth.
I was born and raised in this beautiful town on the west coast, a place filled with warmth, laughter, and love — the kind of community where everyone knows each other by name. But today, that same town is struggling to recover after being hit hard by the storm. The streets I once played on are now flooded, homes are destroyed, and so many families — including my own — are left wondering what comes next.
Most of my family still lives in Falmouth, and hearing their voices filled with fear and uncertainty has been heartbreaking. People have lost their homes, their belongings, and for many, even their sense of security. Food is running low, clean water is scarce, and rebuilding feels almost impossible without help.
In times like these, I am reminded of how truly blessed many of us are — to have shelter, warmth, food, and safety. These are things we often take for granted until we see others struggling to hold onto them. That’s why I’ve created this GoFundMe — not just to raise money, but to bring hope back to a community that has given me so much.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward essentials — food, toiletries, and support for families trying to repair their homes and rebuild their lives. Right now, only emergency services are being allowed into the country. Sending funds will help me to start purchasing supplies and set aside funds to send to the community as soon as money services are reopened.
We can’t always wait for the government or large organizations to step in. Sometimes, change begins with us — with people willing to open their hearts and extend a helping hand. I truly believe God placed this mission on my heart for a reason.
If you are able to give — no matter how big or small — please know that your kindness will ripple through generations. You’ll be helping mothers feed their children, elders find comfort again, and families rebuild the places they once called home.
Every single dollar that you give, will be sent to my community in Jamaica to help families in need. My sister, my nephew, my aunts, my cousins have all been affected by the storm. My plan is to send barrels of food and toiletries to my sister, who is in charge of distributing these items to direct family members, and people in her community of Falmouth. In addition, cash will be sent via Western Union to local family members and people in the community, to help with non-perishable food, and other items that are needed after the storm. My sister, Renee Hemmings, have graciously stepped in to help facilitate the distribution of items in Jamaica.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love, prayers, and generosity means more to my community than words can express. Together, we can help Falmouth rise again — stronger, united, and full of hope.
God Bless!
